This initial stage focuses entirely on establishing a fundamentally sound, repeatable setup and ensuring absolute safety on the practice facilities.

Putting: Juniors learn the baseline mechanics of a pendulum putting stroke. Testing requires precision distance control, culminating in holing consecutive short putts from 5 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet, and eventually 30 feet.

Around the Green: Training introduces the foundational chipped shot from just off the green. Players learn to utilise a basic chipping motion to achieve consistent turf contact and predict ball rollout onto the putting surface.

Full Swing: Instruction centres heavily on the GPA formula (Grip, Posture, and Alignment). Players learn to build a balanced, repeatable swing structure, with the goal of achieving a consistent carry distance of 15 to 35 yards using an iron.

Knowledge & Scoring: Players focus on vital safety protocols (such as establishing clear safety zones while others swing), basic course care (repairing pitch marks and divots), and fundamental golf terminology like Par, Birdie, and Bogey.
US Kids Player Pathway
At the Hensol Hawks Academy, we map out junior golf development using the globally recognised US Kids Golf Learning Program. This exciting, 10-level roadmap transforms complex golf mechanics into a structured, gamified journey for young athletes. By requiring players to pass objective, measurable tests across five core categories—Putting, Around the Green, Full Swing, Knowledge, and Scoring—this comprehensive curriculum eliminates all guesswork from player progression, ensuring your child builds real, lasting skill at every stage.
